SAN FELIPE

Jane Alolen and the ToyotaHaving never been to Mexico, and joining a weekend trip to San Felipe, I was unprepared for the impression San Felipe had on me. I was touched by the warmth of the people, both Mexican and American. The quaintness of the town with its shops and street vendors was perfect for a Saturday afternoon stroll. Coming from Arizona, we already loved the mountains and the desert. We found the missing link here in the Sea of Cortez. Though we were here for just a few days, we put the wheels in motion to build a home and retire here.

San Felipe has been good to us. It has provided an affordable retirement haven, a unique environment, and an abundance of new friends and experiences. Located 120 miles from the border, our environment remains safe and serene.

Quite unexpectedly, I found that I was not quite ready to retire when an opportunity for a new career unfolded just as construction of our home was completed. My new job keeps me on the go, but I love it. I’m a licensed independent contractor in partnership with Lupe Pérez, General Contractor, Pérez Construction, providing contract management and oversight for our clients just beginning their own adventures in building their homes in Mexico. With each new project, I experience the same thrill of seeing a beautiful home rise out of the ground as I did with my own home.

Having been fortunate in being given an opportunity for a new career, I remain optimistic and confident that this is exactly the right time to see the beauty of Baja and especially San Felipe. For those who dream of retiring or having a second home here by the Sea of Cortez, lower building costs and shortened timelines for completion are the norm. There is something for everyone, whether it is a custom home, a cozy casita, or a ramada for an RV. To all who are dreaming of retirement....THIS IS YOUR MOMENT.
